Overview

Staffing Lines, established in 1998, is a national insurance program designed for the Temporary and Permanent Staffing Industry.  Our current program offers Workers Compensation to Outplacement Firms, Executive Recruiting Firms, Temporary Staffing Firms and Permanent Placement Firms.  Our newly launched Package Program will complement the established Workers Compensation Program and focus on 5 major occupational areas: office/clerical, industrial and light manufacturing, technical/professional, medical and sales and marketing.  There is a great opportunity for us to leverage our relationship with the current Staffing Lines workforce to fulfill their package needs.

The Sr. Underwriter is responsible for maintaining and growing a profitable diverse book of business within the Staffing Marketplace.

 

This role will focus on providing effective service to brokers and maintaining underwriting excellence through daily contact with agents to achieve and sustain business results that meet established goals for premium production, retained income, and underwriting profit.

It is also expected of the Sr. Underwriter to communicate with marketing representatives responding to inquiries regarding service, risk evaluation, questions on procedures, rates, premium evaluation, and service. **We are open to this role being hybrid from our Conshohocken, PA Home Office, or fully remote.*

Responsibilities

  • Maintain profitable growth of Workers Compensation business through proper classification and pricing of risks within assigned territory/industry. 
  • Evaluate commercial business for risk acceptability - matching price to exposure, loss frequency and severity for profitability, and rating plans/modifications for renewal retention.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with Agencies to understand the external marketplace and underwrite within established performance standards and priorities that are responsive to marketing, underwriting, retention, and service goals.
  • Meet with insurance agents/carriers/brokers through marketing visits to create, maintain and grow the book of business.
  • Examine and evaluate documents such as applications, inspection reports, MVRS, financial reports, claims history and any other pertinent information to determine degree of risk, underwriting and appropriate market.
  • Accept, price, and bind insurance within underwriting authority.
  • Prepare submissions; market and negotiate with insurance companies on individual accounts.
  • Provide complete policy issuance instructions to support staff, detailing all coverage terms and conditions.
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus through understanding customer’s needs and expectations while following Novacore’s service standards.
  • Pursue technical development to maintain or enhance knowledge skills and abilities required to do the job.
  • Underwrite/manage a complex book of accounts.
  • Monitor claims activity and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management or insurance majors a plus, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of underwriting Worker’s Compensation.
  • Ability to evaluate risk and identify hazards and controls.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 
  • Highly motivated and results oriented.  
  • Strong verbal and written skills.  
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. 
  • Prior knowledge of computer systems (rating system, Pipeline, AFW, ImageRight, etc.).
  • Up to 25% travel.
  • P&C license required, or to be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
