The Senior Premium Billing Administrator plays a pivotal role in the administration and management of premium billing functions within the Stop Loss Insurance division. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing for stop loss policies, resolving complex billing issues, collaborating with underwriting, claims, and accounting teams, and providing exceptional service to clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance premium billing, excellent analytical skills and be able to manage multiple priorities while working independently.

 

Responsibilities

Premium Billing Management:

  • Oversee and process monthly premium billings for stop loss insurance policies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review and analyze complex premium data, adjusting for plan changes, policy amendments, and rate changes.
  • Collaborate with internal and outsource teams to ensure that premiums are correctly billed based on policy details.

Client Communication & Support:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding premium billing inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Provide clear, timely, and professional communication with clients regarding billing issues, premium adjustments, and payments.
  • Assist clients in understanding billing statements and payment schedules.

Reconciliation & Reporting:

  • Perform reconciliation of premium payments, including matching payments with invoices, identifying discrepancies, and resolving issues.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for management, highlighting billing trends, payment status, and any potential issues.
  • Issue and manage delinquency notices.

Process Improvement & Compliance:

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance billing accuracy, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to premium billing.
  • Assist in audits and ensure that all billing records are accurately maintained for audit purposes.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with underwriting, claims, and policy issuance team to ensure that premiums are billed correctly and reflect the most current policy details.
  • Assist in the training and mentorship of junior billing staff, providing guidance on complex billing scenarios.

Problem Solving & Issue Resolution:

  • Investigate and resolve any billing discrepancies or client disputes related to premiums or payments.
  • Escalate complex issues to management as needed while proposing effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in premium billing, preferably within the insurance industry.
  • Strong experience with billing systems and accounting software.
  • Experience with ESL Office preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex billing data and resolve issues independently.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex billing information to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
